Lead-Shielded Cable Processing
US EPA as well as OSHA have stringent rules for the processing of lead-shielded cable. This is especially the case where PCBs are also involved. TCI of Alabama can receive and process all of your lead-shielded cable no matter what the PCB level. Typically, TCI selectively chooses to classify lead-shielded cable as “Assumed PCB” prior to shipping, and will manifest and transport it as such. Taking this approach adds an extra layer of environmental and regulatory protection during the shipping and handling process. If testing is required by the customer, it is conducted at TCI’s facility in accordance with all applicable regulations and acceptable testing/analysis protocols. Following, the lead is manually removed from the cable, degreased, tested, bailed, and shipped to a lead smelter. The copper follows the same general process as lead; however, it is shipped to a copper smelter. Waste from the process is disposed of per local, state, and federal regulations.
